“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:37
Bread is a universal commodity. Every country in the world has some form of bread so we all know what bread is.
Whenever we think of bread, our minds go to the bakery, but bread is whatever we need to sustain us in life. For example, if someone or something is threatening your livelihood, we may say, “You are messing with my bread.”, “This is my bread and butter.” or “You are trying to take bread off my table.”
Bread is associated with life, health, nourishment, and prosperity. We eat for health, strength, enjoyment, and to satisfy hunger. This is why our Father gives us bread daily. (Matthew 6:11). In Matthew 15:26, God says that “Healing is the children’s bread.”
The Bread of Life is the spiritual food we all need. Jesus explained in Matthew 4:4 that “…man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Without the Bread of Life, man cannot live spiritually. In the same way that we need to eat in order to live physically, the bread of life is needed to nourish our souls. Unless we eat of the bread of life, we face eternal death.
When we eat of the Bread of Life, we become so satisfied that we wont crave or lust for anything else. The Bread of Life sustains, nourishes, prospers us, and supplies our every need.
